Jibrin, Govs, Others Urge Meseko To Sustain Commitment To Democracy At 60

The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, Governors of Kogi, Ondo and Yobe States, alongside other prominent Nigerians, have urged the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, to remain steadfast in his commitment to advancing democracy and contributing to Nigeria’s development.

The call was made during the public presentation of a book titled An Odyssey Through the Media, Activism and Leadership, organised to commemorate Meseko’s 60th birthday anniversary in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Senator Barau Jibrin described Meseko as a broad-minded and pan-Nigerian figure whose experiences as a journalist and former member of the House of Representatives have equipped him to play a greater role in deepening democratic values and national progress.

“I am not surprised because he is a former member of the House of Representatives. If you have served in that chamber, you interact with people from every part of the country,” Barau said.

“It is a mini-Nigeria and a true representation of the nation. You relate with everyone, and if you naturally have the disposition of being pan-Nigerian, it makes that relationship even stronger.

“I believe that even before he came to the National Assembly, he already possessed that disposition. He is well-travelled, broad-minded and someone who is comfortable with everyone.”

Similarly, Governors Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, represented at the occasion, as well as former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, commended Meseko’s contributions to national development and democratic governance.

They described him as a bridge builder and advocate of national unity, urging him to remain committed to the ideals that have distinguished him throughout his public service career.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), recounted his longstanding relationship with Meseko, dating back to his days as a journalist covering the Lagos State Government.

According to Marwa, Meseko’s character, professionalism and dedication to duty stood him out from the beginning.

“About 30 years ago, when I served as the Military Administrator of Lagos State, Lagos was a city of extraordinary energy, extraordinary challenges and extraordinary people. It was in that crucible that I first came in contact with Durosinmi Meseko, a young man of character who was then the ThisDay correspondent covering the Lagos Governor’s Office at Alausa,” Marwa recalled.

“I immediately noticed a man whose sharpness of mind, loyalty of spirit and infectious enthusiasm set him apart. He spoke with conviction, listened with intention and worked with a kind of quiet, relentless dedication that produced results where others produced excuses.”

Marwa noted that from journalism to legislative service and now party administration, Meseko has remained consistent in demonstrating purpose, discipline, teamwork and loyalty.

“As you step into 60, I charge you not to slow down. The world still needs your voice. The party still needs your counsel. Nigeria still needs men of your calibre who combine intellectual depth with practical commitment,” he added.

In his goodwill message, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, praised Meseko’s resilience and political journey, describing him as “a man of a second chance.”

Melaye encouraged the APC deputy spokesperson to continue serving the nation with dedication while praying for God to grant others similar opportunities for redemption and success.

The event attracted political leaders, party faithful, media practitioners and associates from across the country who gathered to celebrate Meseko’s life, career and contributions to public service.
