Two suspected Kano robbers in police net

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a tricycle allegedly stolen from its owner in the Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the suspects were arrested following sustained follow-up and intelligence-led operations.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended on Saturday, October 3, 2026, along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway.

The statement said that on September 30, 2026, one Nasiru Ibrahim reported that some persons had chartered his tricycle from Hotoro Quarters, Kano, to Yar Gaya in the Dawakin Kudu LGA, along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, with an agreement to pay him N8,000.

It added that while they were en route, the suspects allegedly brought out locally made guns, threatened Ibrahim at gunpoint and robbed him of his tricycle.

The suspects reportedly dragged him into a nearby bush, where they kept him to prevent him from raising the alarm, before fleeing with the tricycle.

The statement said that following the report and on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, operatives attached to the Filin Hockey Police Division commenced follow-up and intelligence-led operations.

It said the operatives traced and recovered the stolen tricycle at Wudil Local Government Area, along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, at about 1:30pm on October 3.

“Two suspects were arrested in connection with the crime, while exhibits including one stolen tricycle and two locally made guns were recovered from their possession,” the statement said.

The suspects were identified as Abubakar Isah, 27, and Shehu Ibrahim, 25, both of Zogarawa Village, Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano State.

The police said the suspects had confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their commitment and professionalism, while appreciating residents of the state for their prayers, support and cooperation.

The command urged members of the public, particularly those who might have fallen victim to similar tricycle robberies along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway, especially the Hotoro-Dawakin Kudu-Wudil axis, to come forward to the Filin Hockey Police Division for identification or contact the investigating police officer.
