The political landscape in Bayelsa State is gradually taking shape ahead of the 2027 governorship election as Great Joshua MacIver has declared that he will be donating ₦70 million monthly to his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), beginning from August 2026.
This was as he formally expressed his intention to contest for the governorship ticket of the PDP.
MacIver conveyed his ambition on Thursday in a letter addressed to the Bayelsa PDP Chairman and members of the State Working Committee (SWC), formally making his interest in the party’s governorship ticket public.
In the letter, MacIver said his aspiration was anchored on competence, experience, commitment, transparency and the welfare of the people, rather than political zoning.
He stressed that Bayelsa needed a leader capable of delivering effective governance and prioritising the development and wellbeing of its citizens.
“I firmly believe that the people of Bayelsa State deserve a leader who prioritises effectiveness, the welfare of our people, and the development of our State,” he stated.
MacIver also pledged financial support for the PDP as part of his contribution towards rebuilding and repositioning the party in the state.
The pledge, if sustained for 12 months, would amount to ₦840 million, underscoring what he described as his commitment to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 political contest.
His declaration is expected to add another dimension to the emerging political calculations in Bayelsa State as aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
